Sophie Adeyemi

Renter and home-space enthusiast

I live in a rented flat in Birmingham and work in community arts administration. I enjoy arranging rooms around the activities already taking place in them, rather than trying to make a household resemble an empty photograph. Books, visiting friends, shoes by the door and an excellent reading lamp all influence my idea of a successful space.

A Room to Keep gathers observations on comfort, storage, light and reversible changes that suit a rental. Color is welcome, matching is optional and a small room is permitted to contain evidence of its occupants.

Away from home projects I enjoy exhibitions, sewing simple cushion covers and long conversations over tea. My favorite improvements are often quiet: a hook where a coat actually lands, a chair moved toward daylight or a shelf that finally fits the books.
